Cathedral High School is rebuilding Catholic culture through a classical education in Truth, Goodness, and Beauty. The vision of Cathedral High School is to form students to be conformed to Christ, pursue truth, and create beauty in a virtuous life.
This vision unfolds within the evangelizing mission of the Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter, according to the time-tested discipline of the classical curriculum and method, and benefiting from the holistic philosophy and spirituality of Cardinal Saint John Henry Newman, whose motto guides this educational endeavor: Cor ad cor loquitur.

As the patron saint of Cathedral High School, St. John Henry Newman’s spirituality, philosophy, and life journey illuminate and form the culture of the school. From the House System to the names of the classrooms and halls — St. John Henry Newman’s legacy and inspiration guides the school community toward fulfilling its mission and vision.
Heart Speaks Unto Heart:
"This motto of Blessed John Henry Newman, adopted from St. Francis de Sales, contains the essence of a ‘philosophy of communication,’ which is also a philosophy of education. If education is about the communication of values, or meaningful information, and of wisdom and of tradition, between persons and across generations, it is important to know that it can only take place in the heart; that is, in the center of the human person." (Stratford Caldecott, Beauty in the Word)
A patrimony is an inheritance of culture, faith, and history received from the past, treasured, and carefully handed on the to the next generation. As a Catholic school, Cathedral High School upholds the sacred deposit of the Catholic faith and upholds the teachings of the Church. In addition, the mission of the school is to hand on the patrimony of English Christianity, as embodied by the Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter.
The Church’s mission of Catholic education is refined in the Ordinariate according to its vocation to preserve and promote the patrimony of English Christianity for new generations to the enrichment of Christ’s Church. This demands an understanding of the patrimony that is deeper than a collection of things, words, or even actions. The rich patrimony of English Christianity is the sacred history of the Church’s own faith and its interaction with a particular people and a particular culture. Over the course of centuries, English culture made its own the faith once delivered to the Saints, interiorized it and expressed it in imagery, language, and a logic all its own. All the while, the Gospel penetrated that culture, transformed it from within, and used it as a privileged canvas on which to portray love’s redeeming work. At its best, English Christianity expressed a sacramental world-view: a view of God, man, and the right ordering of things so that the world itself and all its wonders is understood as the burning bush of God’s revelation.
Established in 2012, the Ordinariate functions as a Diocese under Most Rev. Bishop Steven J. Lopes. With more than 40 parishes in North America, and based in Houston, Texas, the Ordinariate exists for those who seek full communion with the Church or have been renewed in a particular way by the liturgical and communal expression of English Christianity found within the Ordinariate patrimony. While Cathedral High School gives fresh expression to the teachings of the Catholic faith and the richness of English Christianity, the school is not exclusively for members of the Ordinariate. Rather, Cathedral seeks to evangelize and enrich Catholic education by its unique mission in the greater Houston area.

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Walsingham is the spiritual mother and liturgical heart of our new high school. Cathedral High School is located on the beautiful Cathedral and Shrine campus in the Spring Branch neighborhood of Houston. The school building includes a larger Sacred Music rehearsal hall, Sacred Art studio, state-of-the-art science labs, and a full-size gymnasium, which functions as a shared parish hall space with the Cathedral.
